Collaboration between the team of Professor Vivian Wing-Wah YAM and the team of Professor Lixin WU (Jilin University) has led to the design of a series of cholesterol-/estradiol-appended alkynylplatinum(II) complexes with tridentate N-donor ligands, based on 2,6-bis(1-alkylpyrazol-3-yl)pyridine. Highlighted in the ChemistryViews and also the MaterialsviewsChina, three of these complexes are capable of forming smart supramolecular gels which are responsive to both thermal and mechanical stimuli (Chem. Eur. J. 2013, 19, 9987-9994).
